ABSTAIN FROM FORNICATION: Reflections on Today's Bible Reading

​Today, it is so rare to even hear the word "fornication."  When I was a teenager, I would hear that word all the time. Many churches today seem to overemphasize humanity instead of God's divinity and power to help us to live holy when we wholeheartedly surrender to HIS will and way.

Often time, excuses are made for the sin instead of being determined to win for Jesus in every area of our lives.  Acts 15 spoke about the dissension between some of the Jews and the Apostles about whether or not the Gentiles needed to be circumcised to be saved.  Through Wisdom and the Testimony of Peter, they were able to come to the agreement that the natural circumcision was not needed for their spiritual salvation, Hallelujah!

The apostles did not want to overburden the Gentiles with unnecessary requirements.  The apostles focused on what really mattered like sexual purity and not worshiping idols. Today, I pray that we too will continue to focus on what really matters to God.  Sometimes, we can become so focus on the minor: pursuing our dreams and passions or desire to be married that we forget the major: having a "real" relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus.

Let's take a moment to pray, repent, and refocus our priorities to our first love:

"Dear God, 
Please forgive us for taking our eyes off of you, and putting it on the business of life.  We desire to please you and want to honor your son, our Savior Jesus in all that we do.

Holy Spirit, our teacher and our guide, please help us to keep God first in the name of Christ Jesus, we pray, Amen and Amen!
